Both Glynis Payne and Brian Matthews have sent in details of the New Forest Frogspawn Survey 2022. It is a citizen science project you might be able to help with whilst in your garden or walking in the countryside.
New Forest Spawn Survey
2022
From January until May the Fresh Water Habitats Trust is running a survey to collect important data on the location of breeding
frogs and toads across the New Forest and beyond.
They would like us, as individuals, to help by recording both toad and frog spawn in garden ponds, local community
ponds, and any puddles, ponds, pools, and ditches we come across in the New Forest and across the country.
Their website gives all the information you need to know and includes the survey recording form, species identification and a link that shows you how to find a grid reference
for your survey pond below. Their Spawn Survey does require an accurate grid reference to locate the relevant pond, ditch or larger body of water.
Your
survey findings will be fed into their WaterNet database where the data will
be freely available for Government bodies, NGOs and local people to download to
feed into local wildlife plans and other surveys. They will also pass all our
records on to Record Pool, the national database on reptiles
and amphibians in the UK.
