Adrian was in charge for our final walk of 2019, starting at the recently upgraded Tern Hide overlooking Ibsley Water. It was a grey morning, but dry until mid-morning when the heavens opened for the duration.

In addition to the usual wintering wildfowl Black-necked Grebe, Long-tailed Duck and a Common Sandpiper were seen from the Tern Hide, whilst those who ventured to the Woodland Hide and Ivy Lake’s South Hide were rewarded with Kingfisher, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Long-tailed Tit and Goldcrest. This winter there has been little cold weather, so that the hoped for finches, such as Siskin and Brambling, were still finding sufficient food out in the wild and not yet at the reserve's feeders.
